The new Trailer for the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street that is.

I know a lot of people act all high and mighty and hate all these remakes of "classic" horror movies. Well not me I've personally enjoyed the remakes of The Hills Have Eyes, Friday the 13th and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. A lot of people hate the "MTV" style editing and the ways they are shot I think it ads a grittiness the originals didn't have. I mean have you watched the originals, the color palettes are laughable, the blood runs a nice bright pink and the gore effects themselves are normally (while being inventive in there own right) horrible looking. I can still watch flicks like Friday the 13th 3 and enjoy it for what it is but I'm a child who grew up in the gaming age and need more visual flair. Bring Nightmare on Elm Street on!

OMG Blackest Night 7

Many people have had mixed feelings about the whole Blackest Night event that DC is currently running. The basic idea of dead superheros rising from the graves to destroy all life in the universe started with a bang but sometime around the half way point lots of folks were starting to get frustrated for various reasons for I have loved the hell out of every issue of Blackest Night, Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps that has run as a part of the main stories. The various spin-offs I could give or take but I will say I enjoyed Blackest Night: Superman and Blackest Night: Wonder Woman a lot.

Anyway since the beginning of the whole shebang the big question has been when will the White Lantern's emerge and who will be the first? I've read lots of theories and also came up with my own but for the most part everyone thought obviously Hal Jordan would be the White Lantern that would be the main man in charge of destroying Nekron and the Black Lanterns. Well folks Blackest Night number 7 just read the Hal Jordan sign, shook it off and threw a beautiful curve ball. Just take a look at the cover for Green Lantern #52 for the epic reveal of the first White Lantern.

SPOILER ALERT BELOW!

Take a look below:

How badass is that!?!

I suppose Sinestro makes sense if you think about it but for some reason he never entered my mind when thinking of a White Lantern. The whole scene in which he learns some painful truths about past events and basically throws Jordan aside in order to become the Lantern was amazing. I know this is an epic spoiler already to anyone who hasn't read it but the journey to the end result is a hell of a ride and I can't wait to see how its all wrapped up next month.

Superman Returns (Again)

Good news Superman fans, David Goyer is going to be writing the new Superman flick! Goyer may suck as a director but as a writer he's got a great superhero track record. There are some small tidbits about the potential story which sound exciting. Take a look below:

Latino Review has broken the news that David Goyer will write the new Superman movie, to be titled The Man of Steel!

The site's scooper said that Goyer "had an idea that actually takes the movies back to the John Byrne incarnation. Modern. Believable. FUN!"

The site adds that Brandon Routh will not star in the film and Bryan Singer is not expected to direct.

About the story, the scooper adds: "I can tell you that Goyer's story involves Luthor and Brainiac. It is NOT an origin and assumes audiences already know about Lois, Clark, Jimmy and Perry. I know the Daily Planet is struggling due to the internet. And I know it sets up a huge Kryptonian mythology."

BRAINIAC! HELL YES!!!

Maybe Superman will actually throw a punch this time around!?!

Here's everybody's favorite grouchy chef - writer - guy with the greatest job in the world, Anthony Bourdain on the bizarre children's program, Yo Gabba Gabba! There's really not much else I can say here, the clip says it all. Although, I wish he'd gotten down to the little song, but I know that would be asking too much of Dr. Tony.

Yes, Yes, Yes it's been a while hasn't it?

There are a lot of news worthy bits from the past week or two let me see if I can't run em down:

1. Tim Robbins the latest to see "Green"

The Green Lantern keeps adding star power to an already stellar cast. Tim Robbins will be playing the father of the villain Hector Hammond, Robbins will be playing Senator Hammond and will probably not have a HUGE role but I've always enjoyed Robbins in basically everything I've seen in him. It's also not Robbins first superhero flick as he had a role in the HUGELY POPULAR Howard the Duck...I think he is moving up in the world.

2. The Mission is Impossible...AGAIN!

"I'm in love with J.J. Abrams!!!"

Tom Cruise is confirmed back for another go around as Ethan Hunt, J.J. Abrams is stepping down from directing and instead will be producing along with Cruise. The powers that be are in the process of trying to find another director. The script is being written now based on an idea of Cruise and Abram's thinkings. Personally MI3 is the best of the bunch and having the creative talent from that one still in the mix is a good thing. I 'm down!

3. The Dark Kryptonian

(Tim Burton Anyone?)

Seems DC is serious about getting Superman flying in the right direction as news broke that none other than Christopher Nolan will be "mentoring" a new Superman flick. Mentoring? Thats a new one. I assume he will help get a director/writer/actor in place and maybe even give the script a look through and give a yeah or nay...its certainly a different play but hopefully it works out for the best. I've got some advice for DC in regards to a new Superman flick. GIVE HIM A VILLAIN HE CAN PUNCH!

4. Bill Murray might DIE...

(Best part of this awesome flick)

In Ghostbusters 3 and then become a ghost himself. Those are the words straight out of his mouth. This backs up something that was said awhile back by Sigourney Weaver. He has already played a convincing Zombie so being a ghost shouldn't be a big stretch.

5. Misc Wrap-Up

  • Underworld 4 seems to be moving along and seems to be returning Beckingsale (YEA!) and her hubby director to the franchise they started also like everything else its going to be in 3-D
  • Mr. and Mrs. Smith is getting rebooted...YEAH
  • Avatar taken down (finally) by Dear John (what?)
  • The Fast and The Furious returning for "Fast Five" in 2011

A.D.

This little video is a tease of what could one day become a movie that is in an ideal world. Seems that the makers are using this short tease as a fund raiser of sorts to get interested parties ready to back them. If I had the money I'd be there to help in a second. I mean we are already getting a CG-Zombie flick coming in the form of Night of the Living Dead (Yes another remake) so why not have this I mean is originality so evil? If there is a god maybe this will get the backing it needs to become a full on movie or even TV show and if there isn't a god well then we will probably have to fight off the zombie hordes anyway.

A little update, the best Super Bowl spot ever could be coming in the form of a new Vacation short film, teaser below.

Ever since Community has started my faith in Chevy Chase has been on the up and up and seeing the old family roadster and ever Clark W. Griswold again brings a grin to my face.

Now remember this is the first year that has 10 nominations for Best Picture...for what reason I have no Idea...Probably to throw some more genre films a bone but really whats the point? As much as I'd like to see District 9 get the Oscar I doubt it has a snowballs chance in hell. Now how do I think will win the various Oscars? Not positive because I'm behind on the old ball for half these flicks but I will say from what I've seen I'd vote the following:

Picture: Inglorious Bastards
Directing: Cameron-Based strictly on the basis that it was a technical breakthrough in film-making, though I'm sure Bigelow takes it.
Actor: Haven't seen any of those flicks sadly but I'd imagine Bridges has an edge here.
Actress: No Opinion
Supporting Actor: Should follow the Globes and be Waltz
Supporting Actress: Better not be Mo'Nique
Adapted Screenplay: Would love to see D-9 take it
Original Screenplay: Ideally Bastards but probably Up in the Air
Animated: Mr. Fox should but Pixar dominates this always
Cinematography: Avatar
Editing: Bastards

These aren't who i think will win but who 'd like to. I think the Oscars (and really all movie award shows) are a joke but I'm still always interested to see who wins the next day. Who's hosting this year Baldwin or something? Yeah I'll flip to watch the memorial section and Best Picture.

Thoughts?

See what I did there...
Yeah you see it...
Now watch it...

Honestly the trailers get better and better. More of Mark Strong being awesome plus the last one liner is pretty damn funny considering its delivered by a 12 year old girl.

Oh and heres a new Pic of Jeff Bridges from the new Tron:
