1. Avatar > The Dark Knight

Well I hate to keep bringing it up but James Cameron's small little indie project has been making headlines since day 1 and today it officially passed The Dark Knight making it the second highest grossing film domestically behind only Cameron's own Titanic. Avatar is likely to top Titanic sometime this month both domestically and worldwide unless for some reason people just decide to stop watching it which doesn't seem to be the case.

"It's right there behind my large pile of money"

I'm always interested in movie grosses for whatever reason and what Avatar is doing is simply AMAZING, maybe its the escapism of it all but for whatever reason people can't get enough. I've yet to see it a second time but I will say it's not out of the realm of possibility that I end up shoveling out the 15 or so bucks to enter Pandora yet again.

In other film grossing news Sherlock Holmes is up to about 190 mil and should pass 200 this week which is great news for fans of the flick (like me) who want a sequel. Also somehow Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 is over 200 million.

2. No Bilbo for you! (until 2012)

It's the news that seemed to be coming for sometime but it seems a bit more official now to declare that The Hobbit will not be in cinema's till sometime in 2012. Sad news for fans of Del Toro and Hobbits alike.

(You can just watch this until 2012)

From Variety:
Once the script for the second film is in -- Jackson and his longtime collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens are working on it with Del Toro -- New Line will work up a budget for both films and start casting. New Line exec Michael Disco, who was once Emmerich's assistant, will oversee for the studio.

Horn won't predict when the first of the two "Hobbit" films will be out, but says the most probable scenario would be a release in the fourth quarter of 2012.

"It's a big bet for us. But it's one we think will pay off given the success of 'Lord of the Rings,'" says Emmerich. "This is one of the few movies it feels like people are waiting for."

Hopefully we will get some casting news sometime before the damn film is released!

3. Primeval heads BACK TO THE FUTURE!

In news that will excited anyone who has watched Primeval (British Invasion Week anyone!?!) we have some news about the recently revived show.

"GREAT SCOTT!"

From Sci-Fi Wire

There will be an aspect of the future in [the fourth season], which is new for us... [I]f you think of the future predators from other series, we're going to have a kind of variation on that idea. There may also be some human intervention from the future as well.

Exciting news, I loved the future aspect of the show and always wanted them to take more visits if only for some neat new creature designs. I'm so glad they have commissioned more episodes.

4. Daft Track

Want to listen to some of the music from the new Tron flick courtesy of Daft Punk? I know you do just hang on a second:

Sounds pretty sweet. I'm not gonna lie I don't know much about Daft Punk or Tron but the film looks good and this music sounds good, thats 2 for 2 in my book so far.
