Movie Trailer Trifecta

Here are two trailers for news movies, namely Buried and Piranha 3-D and a Vintage trailer for The Empire Strikes Back featuring a quite non-Han Solo sounding Harrison Ford and by non-Han Solo sounding I mean he sounds like a little boy. Enjoy

Buried is looking pretty good from the several seconds we get, I am looking forward to it. Piranha on the other hand looks like stupid fun, VERY stupid but still fun.

NO NOT MONEY silly, it's something much better! When you buy Clash of the Titans on Blu-Ray you will get a sneak peak at Martin Campbell's Green Lantern! SOLD! I didnt have a chance to see Titan's yet and after some less then kind reviews I was kind of scared off BUT I'm always looking to update my Blu collection and Titan's is probably going to be a solid flick to look at. The Green Lantern stuff, well thats just groovy.

One would assume that the sneak peak will consist of some of what will be shown at Comic-Con (Which I still plan to attend) as the Blu-Ray comes out July 27th, a few short days after Con. At least if I can't make con I can still get some Green Lantern in my life.

Now then RELEASE THE LANTERN! (sorry)

The rest of the extra features include:
Sam Worthington: An Action Hero for the Ages
Harnessing the Gods: Maximum Movie Mode
Deleted Scenes
Alternate Ending
Green Lantern Sneak Peek
BD-Live Costs

and the disc is one of those combo sets so your getting it on Blu,DVD and Digital.

Jon Stewart wins life

The best video you'll see all day. Jon Stewart rips on Apple for the way they've handled the I-Phone-gate incident. I basically agree with everything he says in this almost 9-minute clip. I really don't watch as much Jon Stewart as I should, the man makes sense. Anyway watch below...

James Duffy's: Robin's Big Date
Starring: Sam Rockwell as Batman and Justin Long as Robin

Funniest superhero spoof I've seen in a while, the A-lister talent dosent hurt things either. Anyway I never heard of this until today but this came out in 2007. For those that have seen this and enjoyed it you'll enjoy the news that they are making a sequel with Rockwell and Long returning and this time John Hodgeman as the Penguin, Leslie Bibb as Wonder Woman and Josh Hamilton as Superman. It will be called Robin's Big Speed Date and should be equally as hysterical. So glad I stumbled upon this.

Splice, Splice, Baby!

Sorry for the bad title pun but it gets the point across. There be a new trailer for SPLICE below and it is looking good.

I've been following this film since it's inception and between the awesome concept, good cast and with Del Toro's guiding hand as producer I just hope I'm not left disappointed. If your unfamiliar with it the film tells the story of two scientist (Adrian Brody and Sarah Polley) who well splice human and animal DNA to create an entirely new species, and well things get pretty hairy from then on. The two' scientific love child soon starts to go a little nutty and well I guess we will all need to see the entire movie t find out exactly how it all turns out. I know I will.

You REALLY NEED to play this!

It's called Super Mario Crossover and is hosted over at Newgrounds. Basically you can play through the original Super Mario Bros with Mario OR a selection of Simon Belmont, Megaman, Bill (from Contra), Samus and Link. Got your attention yet?

The coolest thing is each character has there individual games move-set as well as accompanying music. It really is quite awesome and it gives you an excuse to play through one of the best games of all time, so BONUS! Great job to the people (or in this case ONE GUY!) at Exploding Rabbit for making this gem!

In Short, Live Action Halo

For those of you looking forward to Halo:Reach we have a new live-action short. The short is just that, short, running about a minute but a full (not sure the length) version will hit the web Thursday morning. Take a look and consider yourself, TEASED!

I must say the live action stuff they turn out for the Halo's are pretty good, now why can't they get a live-action Halo flick off the ground again.

Remember that new Live Action Ninja Turtle Talk?

Yeah well a picture of what MAY BE the mask for a turtle costume in the movie has found its way online. It looks convincing sure, but I don't think it's real. I just don't see them F'ing with the turtles looks THIS MUCH.

Now I get what is going on here, a realistic turtle BUT what makes 5 feet tall, pizza eating, ninja turtles believable in the first place? The Henson costumes will always have a special place in my heart because they kept the classic comic/toon look while giving them a real-ish feel. This thing looks like it came from a monster movie or something. I'm not saying it's bad, it's just DIFFERENT. I'm sure I COULD get used to if it turns out to be real but man I don't know. Plus this thing looks more like a Geriatric Mutant Ninja Turtle, not so much Teenage.

I for one loved TMNT and would have just preferred a sequel to that flick with Shredder. I guess we can't all get what we wish for. Live action turtles can still be cool, hopefully. Let's see what happens with this one shall we.

Basically what we have here is a video clip of some kids who get to play the new Doctor Who game City of the Daleks. This video starts off fun enough with Daleks invading Sheffield but then starts to focus on some kids who I'm sure are just very happy and excited but come off as annoying. Throughout the video we get some nice glimpses of the first chapter of Doctor Who: The Adventure Games. Gameplay seems like your average adventure fare, still can't wait for this.

I'd rather be stuck in a room with twenty Daleks then those kids.

Why you ask, well the return of a certain character from the first film who more then likely has a bit of a limp now-a-days. Thats right Cary Elwes and the brains behind Saw have made up, probably thanks to lots of cash but it's good news as the mystery of what has happened to Dr. Lawrence Gordon has always plagued fans of the series (what few remain) and each film in the series seems to drop little tidbits and hints that would seem to point to Gordon being involved in the overall "GAME" but who knows maybe we'll only get shitty flashbacks. Heres the full cast list and synopsis:

Confirmed Cast: Tobin Bell, Cary Elwes, Costas Mandylor and Betsy Russell all return with the surprise addition of Sean Patrick Flanery (Boondock Saints), Gina Holden (Aliens vs Predator: Requiem, Final Destination 3), Chad Donella ("Lost", "X-Files"), Laurence Anthony, Dean Armstrong and Naomi Snieckus.

Synopsis: "This October, one of the biggest, most successful horror franchises in movie history arrives in theaters in vivid, chilling 3-D with the release of Lionsgate’s SAW VII 3-D.

As a deadly battle rages over Jigsaw’s brutal legacy, a group of Jigsaw survivors gathers to seek the support of self-help guru and fellow survivor Bobby Dagen, a man whose own dark secrets unleash a new wave of terror...

The first theatrical feature to be shot exclusively on the cutting-edge SI-3D digital camera system, SAW VII 3-D brings the horrifying games of Jigsaw to life like never before. The film stars Tobin Bell, Cary Elwes, Costas Mandylor, Betsy Russell and Sean Patrick Flannery. SAW VII is directed by Kevin Greutert, produced by Oren Koules, Mark Burg and Gregg Hoffman. SAW VII 3D is a Lionsgate Release. Twisted Pictures Presents a Burg/Koules/Hoffman Production.
"
Pretty exciting news for those of us who havnt given up on the franchise yet. I just hope that we can begin to draw it to a close and end it on a bang.

He wasn't lying when he said, "I'll come back, I promise"

I really loved the 1st and 3rd Saws and have found enjoyment in the rest but even I can say it's time to end it. I mean the main characters been dead for like 3 movies now! Oh and in some old news that may have slipped through the webs of relevant information they announced another Saw game, titled Saw 2...So theres that...Yeah...

The Moffat Era part 4: The Time of Angels

Posted by Sinatra The Tank | Posted in , , | Posted on 10:26 PM

The week we’ve been waiting for since seeing the Series 5 trailer, the return of the Doctors future something or other River Song played by the wonderful Alex Kingston and not only that but we also get the return of one of the most interesting Who creatures since the show returned that would be The Weeping Angels. I tried to not get overly excited but it was quite hard as the new series has so far been great and with the return of River and the Angels it was a struggle. Luckily the episode blew my expectations right out of the water.

The Moff has again weaved an incredible tale that completely takes advantage of the everything that makes Who work. River and the Doctors relationship played out much differently in this episode then I was expecting, I suppose I should know by now to expected the unexpected when it comes to Moffat.

Stone Cold Killers...get it...STONE

The Doctor and Amy have some good moments this week but the spotlight is on the Doctor and River. The way the two bicker like an old married couple is hilarious and the actors nail the dynamic. The story itself is pretty interesting. There’s a real mystery to what’s going on but some of that mystery is no doubt due to the fact that this week ends on a cliffhanger leading into next weeks show. All in all we learn some cool new things about the Weeping Angels and a lot of setup for the conclusion next week, oh and this the week when the Doctor fires a gun!

There are some standout scenes in this episode, almost all of which include the Doctor and River however one of my favorite moments was a scene that harkened back to Rivers first appearance, Silence in the Library. I don’t want to spoil to much but anyone who has seen the episode probably knows what I’m talking about. I also found that even though the Doctor and Amy didn’t have to much alone time this week that their chemistry really shines more so then any other episode this series so far, I mean when your in the hand biting stage of a friendship its safe to assume you like each other. Watching the episode gave me the impression that the Doctor and Amy had been together for 3 or 4 series and not simply 3 or 4 episodes.

I (HEART) River Song

Also how about that Alex Kingston? She just has amazing screen presence and makes every scene that much better. Oh River Song, were have you been all my life (swoon). The episode is just a fantastic event from beginning to end. So are there any downfalls?

Only little nit-picky things but nothing really worth mentioning other then the fact that we get left hanging another week but we all knew it was coming so no harm no foul I guess. I wouldn’t go as far as to say this is my favorite Moffat penned story but depending on next week maybe I will. It is easily the top episode of the series so far and I can’t wait for next week. If you thought the Angels couldn’t get any worse, think again, simply not blinking just isn’t going to cut it anymore. Bravo Moff, same time next week then?

So Jimmy Cam has been talking Avatar 2, and this time he wants to explore the oceans of Pandora. (Oooohhhh, ahhhh). According to Yahoo! Movies the director has told the L.A. Times this:
"I'm going to be focusing on the ocean on Pandora, which will be equally rich and diverse and crazy and imaginative, but it just won't be a rain forest. I'm not saying we won't see what we've already seen; we'll see more of that as well." -JC

It must be nice to make a billion bucks with ideas loosely based on mediocre 80's cartoon characters. Anyway, I look forward to seeing The Snorks in this one!

That would be Men In Black 3 or M.I.B.3D if you want to get technical, see that little bit at the end after the 3, yeah big surprise there. I guess if there is good news with this story its that all the important folks are back including Director Barry Sonnenfeld and the two leads Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones but then again weren't all three of those involved in the second one???

"THIS SUITE IS BLACKNOT"

It's been talked about for some time and a script was commissioned a few months ago so I guess this isn't the biggest news but its the first we've heard that Smith and Jones would be back. Today Barry Sonnenfeld confirmed that Smith and Jones (HA Doctor Who) are signed on and the film is ready to roll. Smith had been on the fence trying to decide between this and some other movie and Tommy Lee Jones, well he's just happy to still be above ground. I mean seriously how is this movie going to work, are they going to take the Ghostbusters 3 formula and try and introduce some younger/hipper MIB agents? Because we've all seen how well thats working for that movie.

Sorry if I sound a bit jaded but part 2 was just such SHIT that it's hard to get excited about another installment. Also wasn't Will Smith's brain wiped clean, are we getting another re-hash of K's De-Brain-Wipe idea from part 2? It's all just too stupid to really care about. I just have NO INTEREST in a third movie but to those that are more power to you.

The big question here is what about poor, poor Rip Torn aka Zed last time he was seen h was robbing a bank he claimed to be a house I think the guy could use an acting gig.

Batman: Tale of the New Animated Movies Trailer!

Love em or Hate em the DC animated movies just keep on coming and today we have a special treat the firs trailer for Batman: Under the Red Hood. Take a look at the trailer featuring some glimpses of Nightwing, Ra's Ah Ghul, The Joker and for some odd reason Amazo?!? Anyway heres the trailer:

So what did you think? What do you think of DC Animated flicks in general? I for one have enjoyed basically all the ones I've seen. Green Lantern:First Flight was awesome (Natch), Justice League:Crisis on Two-Earths was neat, Batman:Gotham Knights had some good parts to it and I really enjoyed the nonsense that ensued in Superman/Batman:Public Enemies. I've yet to see the Wonder Woman one even though I heard it is the best of the bunch because at the end of the day I don't care about Wonder Woman, Sue me! Then of course there is Superman:Doomsday which was awesome until the fight ended then I try to block the rest of it out of my head.

These trailers always look interesting and Red Hood is no different, it delivers enough to excite me enough to warrant a watch of it. I didn't follow to closely the Red Hood storyline in the comics but know the basic plot points I should. The voice cast is pretty stellar including Bruce Greenwood (Star Trek), Neil Patrick Harris (NPH!), Jason Ackles (Supernatural) and surely by some kind of black magic they convinced the AMAZING Jason Isaacs...WOW!

The designs look cool enough though Red Hood looks a bit too much like Firefly if you ask me. Anyway. If anything I'm looking forward to seeing what the next animated feature will be as no doubt the DVD will include some kind of teaser (Sinestro Corps War Please), also it comes with a Jonah Hex short, if your into those kinds of things...

The graphics look like an upgraded Tatsunoko vs. Capcom/Street Fighter 4. Just tell me the Marvel side of the roster so I don't die from anticipation, please Capcom, I mean you don't want a death on your hands, do you?

I Want These Toys!

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for toys, I guess it's because I'm immature for my age but something about owning a little 6-7inch representation of some of my favorite characters as always struck me as cool but then again that is just one of the reasons I am a Nerd after all.

I don't have the cash that I'd like to have to spend on Toys but when a cool one that I've had my eye on comes out I try to get my hands on it for the least amount I can. DC Directs Blackest Night series has been the hardest toy series to not buy the crap out of, to this point I only own Black Lantern Earth-1 Superman but I've wanted all the Black Lanterns and for the most part all the secondary characters give or take a few. Anyway the series is now hitting a period I like to refer to as the Going Broke period, the characters that are coming out in the next few months are fan favorites as well as having awesome sculpts. I mean I really need to get Nekron as he IS Blackest Night and there are more then a few including Black Lantern Batman and a few others I wouldn't mind owning.

I thought it couldn't get worse, but then DC Direct released pics of there December releases and all I have to say is DAMN IT!

BN_s7_group.jpg picture by bebiriki

and

BN_s8_group1.jpg picture by bebiriki

Seriously GOD DAMN those are some nice look figures. Black Lantern Superman, MERA with DEX-STAR!, Arkillo and those are just the ones I want from Series 7, series 8 has two of the best looking and coolest characters from all of Blackest Night, Yellow Lantern Scarecrow and Orange Lantern Lex Luthor. I mean even if I only get the ones I listed thats 100 bucks right there! At the end of the day I'll back out of buying most of them but I wont be able to pass up Scarecrow of Lex, the two most inspired Lantern choices from the series in my opinion. Simply Awesome looking, especially Luthor with the clear Orange look...MAN.

Thanks DC Direct for making me go broke buying things meant for 7 year olds!

The Moffat Era part 3: VICTORY of the DALEKS! The Review!

Posted by Sinatra The Tank | Posted in , , | Posted on 1:03 PM

0

EXTERMINATE! No but seriously who hasn’t missed the Dalek’s, granted I’ve been vocal about not wanting Dalek’s involved in a series finale but that’s more of wanting to see something new then dislike for the Dalek’s. In fact it seems to me that it would be nearly impossible to enjoy Doctor Who and not enjoy the Dalek’s rolling into a room. It hasn’t even been that long since we’ve had Dalek’s but sitting back watching Victory of the Dalek’s it felt like ages and I couldn’t help but just smile during the entire episode, well almost.

The story this time out is pretty simple, Doctor heads to WW2 era London and runs into Winston Churchill, Dalek’s pop up, Doctor gets mad, Plans, More Dalek’s, Space Dog Fights, etc… in many ways Victory has the weakest story of the three new episodes so far but in other ways it’s the most enjoyable episode of the lot so far, make sense? There are some intriguing story bits here and there (Who forgets Planets in the sky!?!) but overall the purpose of this episode seems to act as a big old reset button for the Dalek’s exactly how The Eleventh Hour was a reset for The Doctor, this was a Dalek Regeneration story! Besides a few bumps in the road the story is pretty fun, which is what Doctor Who should be in the end.

The Doctor has some amazing moments with the Dalek’s. Matt Smith really has taken the role and ran with it. Amy doesn’t really contribute too much this week which is kind of disappointing considering we all saw just how awesome she could be last week given the spotlight, though again there is one plot point that revolves around a revelation given by Amy that is building. I have to say I really enjoyed all the Winston Churchill stuff which I didn’t expect going in, hell Churchill should be the Doctors companion! The two obviously have had some adventures before. I will say that I extremely hated the Professor character, not that the guy was a bad actor or anything but there is a certain bit of ridiculousness that you'll need to see to understand, I get what they were trying to play with but for me it didn't work. Again though the humans weren't really the centerpiece this week so I could look past my little nitpicks.

UPGRADE AND EXTERMINATE!

Overall Victory of the Dalek's was a blast, defiantly the most fun we’ve had all season. It’s also nice to see the crack in time and space make a return, I’m really intrigued by it, where will it lead? I’m sure Moffat’s got a great little plan in store for all of us. Also I must say the new Dalek make-over is amazing! It’s straight up retro and I love it, makes me wanna go pop in a 4th or 5th Dalek story just for the fun of it. At the end of the day Victory was a great way to spend forty-five minutes of my weekend! Next week, WEEPING ANGELS!

A Doctor Who Game Trailer you say?

Sure it's not what I would call Super Exciting but it's still footage from the new Doctor Who game coming this summer.

It looks good enough though I can't imagine the game being a triple A title but I'm sure Who fans will eat it up (I know I'm going to) and it's an addition this season as well you, yeah, another plus!

Keep and Eye out for a Victory of the Daleks review tomorrow sometime, I know I can't wait to watch it!

Happy Tax Day!/Slow News Day!

Posted by Sinatra The Tank | Posted in | Posted on 1:55 PM

Besides a few little tid-bits here and there its been a slow couple of days but hey at least its TAX DAY! Here is a super quick Re-Cap of whats going on:

1. Peggy Carter aka Captain America's love interest has been cast and is Hayley Atwell :
Marvel Studios announced today that Hayley Atwell has been cast to star as Peggy Carter in the studio's highly anticipated movie CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER opposite Chris Evans. In the early comics, Peggy Carter fell in love with Captain America while they fought together in the war effort. The character will be updated for the feature adaptation. Joe Johnston will direct the film penned by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely. Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige will produce CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER. Alan Fine, Stan Lee, David Maisel and Louis D'Esposito will executive produce. The film will be released in the US on July 22, 2011 and distributed by Paramount Pictures. CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. Atwell will next be seen in PILLARS OF THE EARTH, the 8-part miniseries premiering July 23 on Starz and the TV series THE PRISONER. Her film credits include THE DUCHESS, BRIDESHEAD REVISITED and CASSANDRA'S DREAM. In addition to CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including the highly anticipated sequel, IRON MAN 2, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow on May 7, 2010, THOR on May 6, 2011, and Marvel Studios’ THE AVENGERS on May 4, 2012.
Never really heard of her before but a quick Google image search leads me to this:

Yeah she's cute, not knowing much about Captain America other than the basics I don't know anything about the character but whatever.

2. Whedon also re-writing Avengers Script
This was kind of expected. Like I said I wouldn't mind if he had a hand in the script but does he really need to be the director on this...really Marvel? REALLY???

3. Brightest Day begins
Yesterday saw the release of Brightest Day 0 and it was a good read/start for the Blackest Night follow-up. It's going to be really interesting to see where this leads. Also, what the hell is going on with DEADMAN??? And the Epilogue, well that basically sold me!

So again it's been slow but maybe things will start to pick up sooner rather than later in the meantime remember that TODAY ONLY you can bring in a travel mug to Starbucks and get FREE COFFEE, I myself don't have any of my mugs with me so I fail but that doesn't stop everyone else from taking advantage.

Till the news picks up, Cya!

Joss Whedon...BLAH BLAH BLAH...Avengers...BLAH BLAH BLAH

Posted by Sinatra The Tank | Posted in , | Posted on 6:27 PM

So Joss Whedon is potentially in final talks to direct Avengers...Whoop-D-Shit! I may be one of the few quote/unquote Nerds in the word who isn't pleased by the news. As a matter a fact I didn't even spend the time writing a post about it but it still is THE AVENGERS were talking about here so I suppose...

"Hi Marvel I'm Joss and I'll be ruining your characters today"

Chalk me up as one person who isn't really popping a stiffy over the fact that Joss Whedon may be directing Marvel's ensemble superhero flick The Avengers come 2011. "Oh But Buffy"...Oh but I don't care! Everyone seems to think that Whedon can do a fine job with an group flick such as this but I've seen no evidence in his Feature work that would support that.

From DEADLINE.Com:

I'm told Marvel Studios is in final negotiations forBuffy the Vampire Slayer series architect Joss Whedon to direct Marvel Studios' The Avengers. That's the fast-tracked film that would amount to an all-star team of Marvel superheros, including Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), as well as SHIELD leader Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). Other signature superheros will likely be involved, but I've listed the actors in active superhero duty. Whedon has been rumored for this job for awhile, and is high on the fanboy wish-list. He's an interesting choice: despite his writing/producing TV series resume, his lone feature directing effort, Serenity, was not a hit. After Iron Man 2, Marvel has three pictures left on a distribution deal with Paramount before it moves to Disney, and the studio has been churning them out. Iron Man 2 gets released in May, Captain America will begin shooting this summer in Europe, Thor is in production, and Marvel Studios just set Pete Sollett to directRunaways, based on the comic book series created by Lost writer Brian K. Vaughan. Whedon has written installments of the latter, so he knows how to make those superheros fly. Marvel has considered all of the individual superhero movies to be an intro to The Avengers, so the wanna-see on this one will be huge. The film will be released in the first weekend of May, 2012.
If anything why not let him co-write the script to make sure all the characters get focused on and put someone else behind the camera, who? I don't really know but I'd take anyone besides him and honestly IF he ends up in the directors chair and the movie ROCKS then I'll be the first to eat my words but I don't see it happening, wellllll, maybe...Fuck I HATE Buffy...

Ultimate > Spectacular... apparently

Seems Marvel/Disney/Misney/Darvel/Whatever has announced a new animated Spider-Man series coming to Disney next year called well you guessed it Ultimate Spider-Man based on well you got it again ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN.

This comes from Marvels site:

Hey, webheads!

Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man begins a new saga starting Fall 2011 on Disney XD's "Ultimate Spider-Man"!

The new series will chronicle the adventures of naive high-schooler Peter Parker as he comes to grips with his new powers.

Along with his new powers, the challenge for the young web-slinger in the new series is balancing his relationships with his friends and family and his super colleagues who can help him gain an understanding of his parent's legacy and his destiny.

"Ultimate Spider-Man will be a unique journey exploring our favorite web-slinger as he teams up with other fan favorite Marvel Super Heroes in never before seen stories with a new life filled with great challenges, new friends, intense action and character growth," said Eric S. Rollman, President of Marvel Animation.

Keep it locked to Marvel.com for more on "Ultimate Spider-Man" before it premieres on Disney XD!

Honestly you had one of the best animated shows period with The Spectacular Spider-Man and now instead of picking it up for a third season your starting over with a new (and unproven) team. The guys behind Spectacular got the subject material and I loved it.

This Ultimate show has a lot of to live up to if you ask me. Color me a bit saddened, not that we are getting more animated Spider-Man but that it isn't going to be Spectacular...

May be the game of 2011, 2 was for all intents and purposes the best 3-rd person shooter I ever played and besides a let down with the last battle (if you could even call it that) the game was fantastic, Cry-Baby Dom and all.

So what are your thoughts, looking good? Like the addition of chicks and beards?

Just a quick post to get all the Who fans excited for Episode 3: Victory of the Daleks (great name) and don't worry U.S. viewers there are no spoilers for the first two episodes in-case you haven't seen them yet just more eye candy to get excited about!

The "Next Time" trailer:

The TV trailer:

I know a lot of people may think the Daleks have been done to death recently (I'm looking at you Waters of Mars) but come on their the F'ing Daleks! I can't wait for this episode and as long as the Daleks don't feature in the finale I'll gladly take all the EXTERMINATES I can get!

Victory of the Daleks is the first episode in the new episode not written by Moffat, It was written by Mark Gatiss who also wrote The Idiots Lantern and The Unquite Dead. I'm interested to see if the Moffat tone will be carried over in Gatiss's writing.

Lopez Tonight with your host CONAN O'BRIEN!

Conan is coming back (DUH) and it's not on the channel that we all figured (FOX) instead he will be taking over George Lopez's spot at 11PM on TBS. Turns our FOX affiliates were none to pleased to have to cancel reruns of The Office and The Simpsons and what not as they garner decent numbers.

So instead TBS contacts Conan this week and the deal is done. Conan will be on 11-12 on TBS and Lopez will be on afterward. What a shocking turn of events if you ask me, I never saw Conan on TBS, hell to be honest I never could see him on FOX either but at least he's coming back to late night and hopefully he takes a chunk out of Douchebag McHugechin over on NBC. I know I haven't watched more than 5 minutes of Leno since he's been back and that was only because I was curious about what his set would look like. Dick-Bag.

The official statement:
Comedy icon Conan O’Brien is joining TBS to host a late-night talk show that is expected to debut in November. The Emmy-winning comedian’s new program will be followed by Lopez Tonight, which will shift to a midnight time slot.

O’Brien began talks in earnest with TBS just last week, after George Lopez personally called him to ask that he consider joining the network’s late-night line-up. “I can’t think of anything better than doing my show with Conan as my lead-in,” Lopez said. “It’s the beginning of a new era in late-night comedy.”

Said O’Brien: “In three months I’ve gone from network television to Twitter to performing live in theaters, and now I’m headed to basic cable. My plan is working perfectly.”

O’Brien and Lopez will give TBS a dynamic lineup in late-night television. TBS – which has built a programming slate that appeals to a young, diverse audience – expects O’Brien to be a long-term addition to the network’s late-night landscape. O’Brien will host his hour-long, yet-to-be-titled show Mondays through Thursdays at 11 p.m. (ET/PT).

“Conan has been the comedic voice for a generation. TBS already has a huge audience of young comedy lovers, and Conan’s show will give these fans even more reasons to watch our network,” said Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks.

With the addition of O’Brien’s show, TBS will establish two hours of late-night talk. Lopez Tonight, while just a few months old, has already become a destination show for a diverse audience. The Lopez Tonight audience is young as well, with a median age of just 34.

“For decades, late-night TV has been dominated by broadcast television,” Koonin said. “Now, with a young audience and a growing late-night lineup, TBS is set to be the choice of comedy fans for years to come.”

O’Brien is well-known from his many years in comedy. He grew up in a large, Irish Catholic family in a suburb of Boston. His love of comedy began at an early age and carried on when he entered Harvard University, where he earned a degree in history. During his years at Harvard, he also wrote for the legendary Harvard Lampoon publication, eventually serving as its president.

After leaving Harvard, O’Brien went to Los Angeles, where he found several writing jobs for television, including HBO’s Not Necessarily the News. After returning to the East Coast, O’Brien joined the writing team at Saturday Night Live, earning his first Emmy in 1989. He was writing for the hit show The Simpsons when Lorne Michaels approached him about a new late-night series for NBC. In 1993, Late Night with Conan O’Brien launched. The show ran for 16 years, ending when O’Brien briefly took over The Tonight Show.

O’Brien is currently touring the United States and Canada with his live show, Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour.

TBS, a division of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., is television’s top-rated comedy network. It serves as home to such original comedy series as My Boys, Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and Meet the Browns, as well as the upcoming Neighbors from Hell and Are We There Yet?; the hit late-night series Lopez Tonight, starring George Lopez; hot contemporary comedies like The Office and Family Guy; and specials like Funniest Commercials of the Year; blockbuster movies; and hosted movie showcases. TBS also presents major live events, including star-studded comedy festivals in Chicago and Las Vegas.
It would seem that by moving from network to cable he may lose numbers but keep in mind many programs on cable at the same times regularly out-rank Leno and Letterman, the days of people without cable is basically over so the whole cable vs network rating war seems kind of moot, people WILL WATCH Conan no matter what channel he's on as long as its not a Premium Channel like HBO.

VIVA LA COCO!

CG(reen)I Lantern Suit?

Posted by Sinatra The Tank | Posted in | Posted on 10:41 AM

News breaking this morning regarding the Green Lantern production, people have been waiting and waiting for a snapshot of Reynolds in the GL Suit but so far nothing! Well the reason for this has been seemingly revealed by /Film today:

Everyone is curious to see what Ryan Reynolds will look like in costume in the big screen adaptation of DC Comics’ Green Lantern. Production started earlier this month in New Orleans, and while the first set photos have begun to hit the web — don’t expect to see Reynolds in the green suit. Not today, not next week, not next month, not ever. So don’t expect to see any leaked shots of Reynolds in the actual suit until Warner Bros makes the official full reveal.

Why not?

Well, because there isn’t a suit.

No suit?

That’s right. No suit. When I was first told this info, I didn’t believe it. I actually didn’t even consider it as a real possibility. But the information I’m about to reveal has since been backed up by two other independent sources. I stand by this information 150% — this is legit. I risk my reputation on it. Ready for it? Okay…

The suit that Ryan wears on set is a grey tracking motion/performance capture suit with led lights. I’ve heard that Ryan Reynolds has been joking on set that Warner Bros is going to make him into a Na’vi when the final cut is released. His joke, not mine. The Green Lantern suit you will see in the final film will be almost entirely created using computers.

That’s right — Green Lantern’s suit will be mostly CG!

Wait, stop…

I said STOP. Comic book fanatics should not freak out just yet…

My source within Warner Bros assures me that the suit will look cool. Don’t let the words “Computer generated” scare you.

I must first remind you that Ngila Dickson, the costumer designer on the film has won an Academy Award for a little film called The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Maybe you’ve seen it before? Don’t let her Xena: Warrior Princess roots scare you, she worked on the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Last Samurai (another film which earned her an Oscar nomination), The Illusionist, Blood Diamond and The International. She has an impressive IMDB page, for sure.

Ngila was tasked with trying to find a way to do something that stands apart from all of the other superheroes spandex suit designs we’ve seen in the past. Honestly, isn’t the look becoming overused?

Remember, the Green Lantern suit is something that should look alien — it needs to seem other worldly. It encompasses any creature that wears the ring, and Hal Jordan is the first human to ever wear the suit. This was a chance for Dickson to do something different. You also have to consider that Hal changes into the suit multiple times in mid scene, and the cg also allows him to do this.

I’ve heard that when the cg is complete, the suit will look like a manifestation of his power. And while I couldn’t confirm this, I’ve heard that DC’s Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns has seen the designs and given them his blessing.

The suit is lined with white LEDs, which I initially thought might be used to give a practical glow (kind of like how Billy Crudup wore blue LEDs to give the actors around Dr. Manhattan a blue glow in Watchmen), but I’ve since been told might just be for mo-cap tracking purposes.

Here is some other information I’ve learned about the production:

  1. That leaked set photo of the silver ship is indeed Abin Sur’s crashed spaceship
  2. Temura Morrison looks legit as Abin Sur, although his head isn’t as elongated as in the concept art photos leaked awhile back.
  3. Peter Sarsgaard’s makeup tests with the enlarged head look cool. He has wild hair, kind of like Jason Lee in “My Name is Earl” and, of course, the kind of traditional Hector Hammond stache.
  4. I’m told that Reynolds is awesome in the role. He’s knocking it out of the park so far.
  5. The screenplay that leaked online is a very old draft. I’ve been told that the villains have changed a bit and that the rewritten script is supposedly way better in the end.
A lot of information to take in but overall I'm still liking what I'm hearing. All the word out of he production is VERY positive granted I'm sure people involved with the production wouldn't directly say anything negative but there isn't so much a rumor about anything being wrong with this one so far...good signs to be sure.

Here's hoping we don't have to wait until a trailer to see the Green Lanterns in action (though I fear we might)...COMIC CON!

The Moffat Era part 2: Sinatra Reviews The Beast Below

It’s been just short of a week since The Eleventh Doctor and Amy Pond began their adventures in time and space, so the question is, does the second episode of the Moffat Era live up to expectations? Well DUH! The Beast Below takes place on Starship U.K. a spaceship carrying the whole of the British people ever since the Earth began to burn. The ships been afloat for many hundreds of years yet everything isn’t what it appears (ofcourse) and once the Doctor arrives things begin to unravel.

Matt Smith continues to develop his take on the Doctor with some pretty spectacular results, part knight in shining armor and park cocky high-school quarterback. You remember when at the end of Waters of Mars The Doctor seemed a little TOO confident? Well it’s almost seems like a bit of that confidence has lingered in this form which makes sense considering The Doctor once claimed that his 9th/10th incarnation was born from War and that Rose changed her. The Doctor gets some really awesome moments in this one, a couple nice one-liners and some powerful dialogue, so far Matt Smith is really great maybe no Tennant yet but he’s defiantly had a better start in my opinion then Tennant who for the most part was lackluster (when compared to his later seasons) in his first year.

Turn that frown upside down!

Karen aka Amy gets a full episode to develop her character and again this second episode really helps define her character as a strong willed character who is unsure and maybe even scared of her own future. It really helped that The Doctor and Amy spent a portion of the episode separated because when the focus is on both of them the viewer tends to look more at the relationship dynamic between the two but when separate they each get a chance at the spotlight which is needed this early on so we don’t have to still wonder what the character may become down the line come week 12 or 13.

The story of Beast is decent enough, there is a mystery that while seemingly super threatening isn’t. Basically the entire episode boils down to the age old Doctors choice, never an easy one at that. It might have seemed stale with a weaker companion but without giving away too much Moffat wrote Amy a part that flipped most of his former companions upside down. For once it’s not all on The Doctors hands. I will say I was hoping for more from the Smilers (those creepy angry looking robot things from the trailers) as they never went far beyond a threatening face, although to be fair there is one bit involving them that could have been interesting but was never expanded upon it was just left up in the air, I’m sure you’ll know what I mean if you’ve watched it. Most of the secondary characters this time out are completely forgettable sadly including Liz who makes a great entrance. Overall there are a couple of plot points that are weak or just plain forgotten that maybe if this episode had an hour running time like the first it could have been better. The main plot device which features the titular “beast” is also kind of weak but still far from the worst Who has ever had.

"No I'm telling you we parked in the M Lot"

So then The Doctor and Amy are still pleasantly surprising me, the story this time out had its moments but was ultimately a bit weak compared to last week. The ending though was a thing of genius, sure when you watch it you may scratch you head and say WTF but it doesn’t stop it from being awesome and making you look forward to episode 3 with mouth watering ferocity and if the end wasn’t enough the trailer for episode 3 was crotch adjusting-ly great,Winston Churchill FTW!!! Overall a very fun episode.

Overall Score

7 out of 10

Sinatra ENJOYS The Beast Below

Percy Jackson is more than likely also Peter Parker

A quick news bit that has hit the interwebs. Percy Jackson actor Logan Lerman is basically "almost 100% locked" to put on the tights and play Spider-Man in the reboot due out in the Summer of 2012.

"GEE WIZ"

The story comes from HitFlix:
As we've already reported the script is being written by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, The Losers) and will be directed by MarcWebb (500 Days of Summer). It will be a complete reboot of the franchise, taking us back to another goddamn origin story, with the addition of WEB-SLINGING 3D this time, of course. The film is expected to hit July 3rd, 2012 which certainly sees like a short time when they don't even have a cast set yet. But don't forget that the film will only cost 80 million dollars, so you shouldn't expect any big action set-pieces on par with the original trilogy.
Never saw Percy Jackson but won't lie its on my list of flicks to catch when it hits DVD, the kid looks like he could play a nerdy highschooler thats for sure but does he have the charisma needed to create the Peter Parker comic fans have been wanting AKA a wise-cracking, upbeat one and not a crying wimp (still love the Raimi Spidey flicks but I can see the flaws in them) anyway only time will tell.

Think Green

Want to see some UN-used Green Lantern concept art? Well here ya go:

Jason Palmer's Green Lantern

It's pretty basic fair, looks like a cover from GL with a drawing/paint of Reynolds head on top but this was choosen not to be used. It's from Jason Palmer who IS (apparently) working on the film and according to him:

I did some work for the upcoming Green Lantern movie. I can’t show the submitted art, but this is some extra art I did as a cover to the submission pdf, but was strangely not included in the submission. Oh well. For this art, I didn’t use costume designs or Reynolds ref that was provided by WB, so I can share it with you.

Hmmmm so he didn't use any references for the movie which explains is SUPER accurate comic look and lack of mask. So basically this Art is more or less nothing but its nice to see Reynold's head on a GL's body, defiantly looking like Hal Jordan to me.

If you remember the original leaked concepts had a much more Organic feel to them almost as if the costumes themselves were alive, they were cool but I'd like something along the lines of the Superman costume from Superman Return aka a basic straight up comic version only darker and textured a bit.

Can't wait until Comic-Con! Als0 keep an eye out later today/early tomorrow for a review of the 2nd Episode of Doctor Who, The Beast Below!

The TOP Spot-4/9/2010

Well it's been a while since the TOP SPOT has graced this blog but on a slow news day IT RETURNS! Enjoy!

The TOP 10 movies that SHOULD NEVER BE remade

The following films should in no way ever be touch again by cinematic “Masterminds” all that would ever be done would be the tarnishing of the originals impact. Anyway on with the list…

10. Star Wars

Need I say more, sure Lucas screwed the pooch with the Prequels but they don’t hinder the original in my eyes. I don’t care and admittedly would be pretty excited if he made a sequel trilogy but I never want to see another movie release titled The Empire Strikes Back starring Zac Efron as Han Solo…

9. Evil Dead

Count me as one of the ones who in no way wants to see a remake/reboot of Evil Dead. The original trilogy is just perfect for what they were trying to do and you just cant replace Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi in their prime.

8. Fight Club

I was late to the game in watching Fight Club, didn’t watch it for the first time until last year and since then I’ve seen the film probably 9 or 10 times. I went many years denying to myself the greatness of this film and regret it now. There would be no positive outcome if someone thought they could one up Fincher.

7. Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz

Any pairing of Wright/Frost/Pegg should NEVER under ANY circumstances try to be recreated at home, it’s just a recipe for disaster. That god this films got U.S. releases and cemented the trio’s star status in American or I could have totally seen an attempted remake. Just look at the Spaced remake if you want to know how bad things could get.

6. There Will Be Blood

NO ONE should ever play Daniel Plainview again unless his name is Daniel Day Lewis.

5. Pulp Fiction

I could imagine a remake of Reservoir Dogs actually working with a beefed up cast and larger scale. I’m not saying that I think it or any Q.T. movie for that matter will ever me remade but if the thought ever crossed someone’s mind to dabble then I just suggest they avoid Pulp Fiction like the plague because its one of his movies that if you remove his “touch” just wouldn’t be nearly as good.

4. Unforgiven

Classic Clint (PERIOD)

3. Trainspotting

It’s my favorite movie so ofcourse I feel very protective of it but I just can’t for the life of me imagine any other actors in the roles of Renton, Sick Boy, Begbie and the rest. When I read the book it’s those actors whose voices fill my head. Now if you want to make Porno into a movie already I’d be down for that, you hear me Danny Boyle. Please

2. Goodfellas

Yeah Yeah, I’m Italian blah blah BUT actually I HATE most mob movies including The Godfather and Scarface but there is just something about Goodfellas that works SOOO well and unless you could get every single actor back and shoot a shot for shot remake then I have no Interest what-so-ever.

And the TOP SPOT goes to...

1. The Shawshank Redemption

Could it be anything else? The Top flick on IMDB’s top 250 films of all time list FOR A REASON. It’s one of those movies that whenever its on no matter what part, edited for TV or not I could just watch and be memorized. The best Stephen King Adaptation BY FAR, the best Tim Robbins role BY FAR, the best Frank Darabont film BY FAR, the best prison flick BY FAR, the list goes on and on.

"So what are you thinking, Curveball?"

Robbins and Morgan Freeman were tailor made to play their roles, it’s as if God was thinking one day “Hmm one day there will be a movie based on Shawshank so I better get to creating a perfect Andy and Red” I’m sorry I’m gushing but let it be known if any producer out in Hollywood EVER tries to get funny with Shawshank…I WILL FIND YOU!
